Happy Geek Day!

To celebrate, here is a picture of me with my award-winning science fair project: How Does a Radio Work? It won top score in my school (this was 6th grade, at that time it was still elementary school), and went on to compete in State (semi?) Finals. After having sat in that giant warehouse full of kids and their… it seems like most of them did prisms, because their displays looked pretty… waiting for hours for a judge to walk on by, one finally did. I have a feeling my Mom got her Hulk-Smash persona going on and forced him, but I have no proof. Anyway, I MADE A RADIO! I mean, come on! That’s so cool, right? Well, it was really hard to hear the actual signal (and knowing what we all do now about wireless signals, I’m sure the wifi was crappy in that warehouse) there with all those hundreds (?) of kids and their parents and experiments and cavernous space and ’80s headphones and such. So the judge couldn’t really hear my radio. So he was kinda taking my word for it. So yeah, no, I didn’t move on in the competition from there.

I think my Dad still has this radio in the shed. I should ask him to break it out in honor of Geek Day. I wonder if it picks up Sirius…or cell phone signals? See, I don’t know much else about it, except of course How It Works… ~Jenn
