Random Movement Pic
This time from fellow movement theatre guy Jeff Wills. He wants me to mention that this lovely Dragon pose was “a result of circus training [they] received from Kate Magram and her troupe Kirkos.” ~Jenn
Hawaii 5-0 fights
I’m watching yesterday’s episode of the new Hawaii 5-0 and I must say I am more than impressed
with the fights I’ve seen in this series so far, particularly this episode. The fights between Kona and Natalie were not only stellar, but some of the most brutal female-only fights I’ve ever seen. And I mean that in a good way–all too often (yes, Virginia, even in this modern year of 2010) “chick fights” tend to have the punches pulled, as it were. These fights had the right amount of James-Bond-esque height and yet still didn’t suspend my disbelief. There’s a delightfully ridiculous “trapeze-fight” moment later in the episode which was delightfully over the top and yet brief enough that it didn’t mess anything up. I also noticed that Park (who plays Kona) was wearing knee pads in one scene. You go, girl. I am all for knee pads. I wonder if anyone else noticed, though…
There’s something in the balance of old-school camp (which nods to the old original show) and a modern sensibility and technology, that is the right way to re-do a series like this. The all-too short-lived Knight Rider new series had this wonderful balance, but apparently not enough people appreciated it and it was cancelled. Hoping that judging from the huge ratings Hawaii 5-0 has gotten so far, it’ll continue for a while and we all can enjoy how it grows through the seasons. ~Jenn
